Lifeguarded Beach
Lydgate Beach Park is located on Kaua’is East Side, next to the Wailua River. A beach popular to both residents and tourists, offering scenic views and excellent snorkeling. If you’re looking for a relaxing beach to spend the day with your whole family, Lydgate Beach is an excellent option on the Garden Island.
There are rock barriers creating enclosed swimming areas, which makes it a great place for your keiki. Since it is a protected and safe swim spot, many beginner swimmers and snorkelers enjoy this area. It is one of the safest places to swim on the island year-round. The two lagoon pools make it great for a peaceful beach day.
The shallow swimming spots at Lydgate also happen to be an incredible snorkeling spot on the island. A wide variety of tropical fish find their way into the protected area, so you’ll be sure to find a lot of local sea creatures here.
Not only is this beach perfect for beginner snorkelers and small children, it’s also the perfect place for picnics, camping, windsurfing, and surfing. You will often see windsurfers outside the protected lagoons. The beach park also offers an area for children to play at Kamalani playground, restrooms, and lifeguards for your safety.
From the south side of the island, drive north towards Wailua on Highway 56. Turn right on Leho Drive at mile marker 5. Take the second right to get to the main area with the playground, swimming area, and pavilions. If coming from the north shore, drive toward Lihue and turn left on Leho Drive and left on Nalu Road for beach access.
