44th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk
The 44th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk is almost here! Mark your calendars for May 6th, 2023, when the walk will take place at Vidinha Stadium on the beautiful island of Kaua’i.
Last year’s charity walk was a huge success, with the Kaua’i Chapter raising an impressive $457,054.30 to be shared among local non-profit organizations. In fact, the Kaua’i Chapter was the second-highest fundraiser in the state, with only Maui raising more at over $1 million.
The Kaua’i Chapter’s Board of Directors would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the sponsors who made the 43rd Annual Visitor Industry Walk such a success. In particular, we would like to recognize the Sheraton Kauai Resort as our top fundraising hotel, with a donation of over $53,000 under the leadership of General Manager Chip Bahouth. The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa also made an exceptional contribution with nearly $43,000 raised under the leadership of General Manager Dan King.
Individuals also played a crucial role in the success of the charity walk, with Lilian Watari, the Guest Service Manager of Hanalei Bay Resort, raising an impressive $37,475 for the 7th year in a row as our top individual fundraiser. Other top fundraisers included Koloa Landing Resort at $27,953, Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club at $25,031, and the Royal Sonesta Kauai Resort Lihu’e at $23,362. Kipu Ranch Adventures also deserves a special mention as our top allied fundraiser, raising over $7,000.
Non-profit organizations also made a significant contribution to the charity walk, with a total of over $103,000 raised. The Alaka’i O Kaua’i Public Charter School led the effort with a donation of nearly $13,000, followed by the Kaua’i Community Cat Project with over $11,000.
We would like to give a special mahalo to all of our corporate sponsors and businesses that donated gift certificates and goods for our fundraising events. Without their support, this charity walk would not have been possible.
It’s inspiring to see so many organizations and individuals come together to support important causes on Kaua’i. Each year Charity Walk comes to a close, it is clear that the community has a strong commitment to giving back, and the contributions of the sponsors and donors are greatly appreciated.
We look forward to another successful year at the 44th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk!
The Charity Walk, founded in 1974 and expanded statewide in 1978, is now Hawai’i’s largest single-day fundraising event by a non-profit organization. Since its inception, more than $32 million has been raised to support hundreds of local charities throughout the state. Spearheaded by the Hawai’i Lodging & Tourism Association and its non-profit arm the Hawai’i Hotel Industry Foundation, the Charity Walk is held every year on Hawai’i, Kaua’i, Lana’i, Maui, Moloka’i, and O’ahu. Money raised on an island or county stays there.
